SURFACE SIZE

How are you measuring?

Choose the easiest way to describe the surfaces you are covering.

Measurement method

Surfaces to cover

Surfaces to cover

Measured floor to ceiling.

Use this option if you already know the total area to cover.

Total area of doors and windows. A 36 in × 80 in door is 20 ft². Small openings are often left in, because the cutout becomes waste.

SHEET SIZE

Which sheets are you buying?

Longer sheets mean fewer seams but are heavier to handle.

Waste allowance

Covers cuts around openings, corners, and damaged sheets.

HOW IT WORKS

Sheets you can account for.

TapeToCart separates the surface you measured, the openings you removed, the waste allowance you chose, and the whole sheets you have to buy.

How the calculation works

In room mode, wall area is the room perimeter multiplied by the wall height, and ceiling area is length multiplied by width. Openings are subtracted, then the waste allowance is added.

Wall area = 2 × (length + width) × wall height

Sheets = area to cover ÷ sheet area, rounded up

Because sheets cannot be split, the sheet area you buy is usually a little more than the area to cover. The difference is shown as extra coverage.

Before you order

Confirm which board type your project needs. Wet areas and some locations, such as walls between a garage and living space, can require moisture-resistant or fire-rated board under local code.

Check the board thickness and the sheet length that suits your wall height and ceiling layout, and plan how the sheets will fit through doors and stairways.

Joint compound, tape, screws, and corner bead are not included in this estimate.

Sources and assumptions

Sheet areas are the nominal sheet dimensions multiplied together: 4 ft × 8 ft = 32 ft², 4 ft × 10 ft = 40 ft², and 4 ft × 12 ft = 48 ft².

Openings are subtracted exactly as you enter them. We do not assume standard door or window sizes.

The waste allowance is a planning margin you choose, and it is shown in every result.
